Why is my RAM getting smaller?

My laptop have a 256MB RAM when I first got it. Now it's down to 190MB. What's going on? How do you fix this?

Why is my RAM getting smaller?

If this is what window is reporting you potentially could have a virus or trojan explicitly allocating memory on the boot. If could also just be, if this is a laptop, the computer grab 64 mg so it can do internal processing.
most likely it is your video. but for your ram have lost some of its modules and goihg bad.
is your graphics card 64mb by any occasion? by default the bios reserves 2mb of run into as a video cache and the remaining 64mb if your mobo has an integrated graphics chip will be reserved by the graphics chip. buy at most minuscule 1gb of ram if your using xp for better recitation
