Why is my XFX Geforce 7600GT 256MB AGP 8X showing an approx. total memory of 551MB or even 581MB??

I hold an Asus P4S800D-X motherboard, P4 2.8ghz CPU, 1.5gb DDR Ram and Windows Vista Home Premium. Someone plz explain to me why the memory is different!!!

It may be that Windows Vista has problems near that card and its current drivers for vista. I would re-download and install the drivers from nvidia. This may help. I hold the same card on XP next to a p4 and 1.5gb of ram and it shows 256mb of video memory.

Good Luck
What do you parsimonious? Don't compare the 2.8Ghz of your processor and the 1.5Gb of your RAM, they're completely different things. If you're not getting your 1.5Gb of RAM, on startup, hit delete, and go lower than Jumper-Free Settings, and this is where you can overclock your RAM. If it is running below normal operation, transfer it to normal, or you can even run it underneath higher than recommended, but be warn: running your RAM too high can result surrounded by damage to your RAM card(s).
Count your blessings! Free video memory. The program that shows you the specs is suspect if you are sure of the 256MB. Check it out next to everest home edition.
IDK ASK SOMEONE ELSE!
You may be looking at AGP Aperture Size or Texture Memory of the Video Card.
Your nvidia card may be using some of your mainboard memory for either texture or processing. 1.5 GB DDR Ram is enough memory to not verbs about it. It could tremendously well lend a hand your games run smoother and faster.
Windows may be assigning added memory. What shows on the screen at boot up -- should be 256mb -- next when you check the control panel or My Computer you will see a different result.
