Are you using the DVD-R blank disks? DVD+R will not work surrounded by a DVD-R drive.
Make sure you are putting in Blank DVD-R's and not +R's and check to see if you can update your DVD's driver from your laptop manufacturer's website.
two type of dvd disc. dvd - r and dvd + r. Make sure that your drive can read the type of disc you hold. Some drive only sanction only 1 type.
